CLIPPERS BEAT BY HUSTLE DESPITE 43 FROM FITTS AND FORD
Orlando, FL - The Agua Caliente Clippers (3-9) lose their sixth in a row, falling to the Memphis Hustle (4-8), 103-119, on Monday night. With the loss and a Lakeland Magic win, the Clippers have been eliminated from playoff contention.
The first half was all Memphis, with the Hustle leading by as much as 17 in the second quarter. As they have all season, the Clippers showed fight, cutting their deficit to five at halftime and taking a two-point lead midway through the third. That lead wouldn’t last long, however, as Memphis went on a rampage in the final frame, shooting 61.9 percent from the field (13-for-21) and 71.4 percent from three (five-for-seven) to regain game-high 18-point advantage on their way to victory.
The Saint Mary’s duo of Malik Fitts and Jordan Ford once again played well in the losing effort for Agua Caliente. Ford led all scorers with 23 points on eight-of-13 shooting off the bench while Fitts added 20 points on and identical eight-of-13 shooting from the field, his second consecutive game scoring at least 20.
Memphis was led by two-way player Sean McDermott’s 21 points. Freddie Gillespie added a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double. Memphis received a huge spark from their bench, which combined for a total of 70 points.
The Clippers will look to play spoiler on Wednesday as they take on the freshly inaugurated G League Ignite. The ballgame tips off at 12:00 p.m. PT inside the AdventHealth Arena at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, FL and can be viewed on ESPN U.
